80 car train
Title:  80 car train
Description:  The CN leased us this engine for one day because we had 80 storage cars at Aberdeen JCT to be picked up to take to Kosciusko. It would have taken about 8 trips in our 45-tonner to move this many cars. Shortly after this picture, we stalled on the hill leaving Mc Adams and had to double our train into Kosciusko. This was the longest train we ever had on the KSRY. Engineer Robert Riley, Conductor Dave Dellatte, Brakemen Joe Marascalco and Merrill Porter.

IC 9614
Title:  IC 9614
Description:  The CN leased the KSRY this engine for moving a big cut of storage cars. We are about to depart Kosciusko and head to Aberdeen JCT to give the engine and these cars back. Later that trip, we hit a tree and slightly bent one of the grab irons. We didn't realize the grab irons were bent but the CN sure did. One of the head guys over CN's engines told us we would never get another one of their engines. So, we had to wait until that guy went on vacation before we were able to get another one. From left to right, Robert Riley (engineer), Merrill Porter (Brakeman), Joe Marascalco (Conductor)

KSRY 503
Title:  KSRY 503
Description:  Here lies the KSRY's only engine. This was one hell of an engine to run. The first thing we would do when we got to work was take the car batteries out the engine and charge them with our vehicles. This engine couldn't keep the batteries charged. It took 2 people to crank it, one to hit the start button and another to spray starting fluid. After you got it started, you had to wait about 15 minutes to get the air built up. If you cut the air in to more than about 10 cars, you had to sit and pump for about 30 minutes to get the air up. If you had a big cut of cars and you blew the horn and rang the bell a lot, the main res. would drop below the brake pipe and the brakes would come on. The throttle did not have notches and it had a spring that would return it to idle if you let go. In cold weather, if you kept the throttle wide open for a while, fire would be coming out of both stacks.
