Although the company at this time is still officially the Illinois Central Gulf, plans were already underway to spin off the railroad from IC Industries and rename the railroad the Illinois Central. All this would come to pass a few months later in 1988. |

They would wait for the other train to get close to minimize the time the crossings are blocked while in the siging. The 6,113 ft. siding here has 4 street crossings. That Amtrak engine seen here is deadheading back north, it had been involved in a crossing accident. |
