| Here lies the KSRY's only engine. This was one hell of an engine to run. The first thing we would do when we got to work was take the car batteries out the engine and charge them with our vehicles. This engine couldn't keep the batteries charged. It took 2 people to crank it, one to hit the start button and another to spray starting fluid. After you got it started, you had to wait about 15 minutes to get the air built up. If you cut the air in to more than about 10 cars, you had to sit and pump for about 30 minutes to get the air up. If you had a big cut of cars and you blew the horn and rang the bell a lot, the main res. would drop below the brake pipe and the brakes would come on. The throttle did not have notches and it had a spring that would return it to idle if you let go. In cold weather, if you kept the throttle wide open for a while, fire would be coming out of both stacks. |
