The Rebel
Title:  The Rebel
Description:  The south's first streamliner makes its station stop at the Gulf Mobile & Northern passenger station in downtown Jackson, MS, on its southbound trip from Jackson, TN to New Orleans. You can see the top of the Old Capitol building in the background. This trainset was one of three that were built for the GM&N in 1935 and 1937 by American Car and Foundry. These trainsets were later referred to as the Little Rebel after the creation of the GM&O in 1940 and these trains ran until 1954. The power cars were scrapped in 1962. Today, this station now houses the Mississippi Department of Archives and History. The tracks through here were removed in the late 1990s except for a small section of the main that they left infront of the station. Picture taken sometime in May of 1938.

#32
Title:  #32
Description:  Northbound GM&O Freight #32 coming over the Pearl River in Jackson, MS. This crew just got on the train at Capital Yard in Jackson and will take the train to Louisville, MS. The track over the Pear River was used by the IC until the 1990's to access local industries. There is currently no track going to the bridge on either side, but there still is rail on top of the main span and on some of the approaches. The approach that is in the curve has collapsed. Picture taken sometime in summer of 1971.

Switching at Capitol Yard
Title:  Switching at Capitol Yard
Description:  An unknown train switches at the south end of Capitol Yard about one year before this line was cut in half north of Jackson. This is probably train 33. Picture taken looking north from High St. This slide is thought to originally be a Conniff Railroadiana slide, which I acquired from John Kohlberg.
