Director's Special
Title:  Director's Special
Description:  The officers of the Illinois Central Gulf take a tour of the railroad between Chicago and New Orleans. Here, the train has just departed Central Station headed south. Although the company at this time is still officially the Illinois Central Gulf, plans were already underway to spin off the railroad from IC Industries and rename the railroad the Illinois Central. All this would come to pass a few months later in 1988.

Title:  I-02
Description:  New Orleans to Chicago pig train, I-02 is seen sitting on the main just south of Monroe St. on the south side of Grenada. They are waiting on southbound pig train, I-01 to get close to Grenada so they can pull into the siding. They would wait for the other train to get close to minimize the time the crossings are blocked while in the siging. The 6,113 ft. siding here has 4 street crossings. That Amtrak engine seen here is deadheading back north, it had been involved in a crossing accident.

I-01 southbound at East JCT
Title:  I-01 southbound at East JCT
Description:  The hottest train on the railroad, Chicago to New Orleans pig I-01, has just come through downtown Memphis and is about to head down the city wye at East JCT where it will set out and pick up at the intermodal facility at Johnston Yard, then continue on south to Jackson and New Orleans. Today at East JCT, the two small railroad shacks no longer exist, neither does the spring switches or ABS signals, all having fell victim to Hunter Harrison.

Description:  New Orleans to Chicago pig train I-02 is headed north by the siding called Delta, which is by the little community of Renswhaw. The railroad had to rename this siding because there was a head-on collision here in the early 1990's when the line did not have signals. There was a siding called Crenshaw and the one here was Renshaw, the two locations got mixed up. Date is approx. Photo by Fred Goff.
