Album Info:Covers the former Illinois Central Gulf trackage between Jackson, TN and Water Valley JCT, MS. The Illinois Central Gulf abandoned from Jackson, TN to Grand JCT, TN and from Oxford, MS to Coffeeville, MS in 1982. The Illinois Central Gulf abandoned from Coffeeville, MS to Bruce JCT, MS in 1984. The portion from Grand JCT, TN to Oxford, MS is operated by the Mississippi Central Railway but is used for storage cars only after the last customer shut down in March of 2016. The Mississippi Central abandoned 3 miles of track through downtown Oxford in 2000 due to the City of Oxford purchasing the right of way in order to construct a new road through the Ole Miss Campus. The portion from Bruce JCT to Water Valley JCT is operated by Iowa Pacific's Grenada Railway and is used for car storage only. Also included are pics from the connecting short line Mississippi & Skuna Valley which ran from Bruce JCT to Bruce, MS, which was abandoned in 2012.

Description:  #41, a local that ran from Jackson, TN to Canton, MS is headed south getting ready to cross over the Southern Railway. The last IC train to stop here that handled passengers was this same train and its counterpart, No. 41 and 42 in August of 1941. Those two ran as mixed trains. Depot
Title:  Depot
Description:  Here is the Coffeeville Depot during the summer of 1982. This railroad was abandoned this same year from Oxford to a mile or two north of this location. The tracks were removed from downtown Coffeeville about two years after this picture. You can already see the pile of ballast that is probably from the abandoned portion. This depot is now gone. Also in the picture, the old Coffeeville Hotel, which is also gone. The main line is between the depot and the hotel. The track in the foreground is the house track. The last passenger trains to stop here were No. 125 and 126 local passenger in August of 1941. The last agent to work out of here was in March of 1970.

Description:  We are passing by MP 543 as we triple out of the Holly Springs yard. These mileposts are numbered from Chicago. Notice the fixed approach signal on the left side of the main. This approach signal is for the absolute signal entering the BNSF main at Holly Springs. You can see a small concrete foundation under the approach sign where a semaphore signal used to do this job. This semphore was here until the 1990's when Pioneer decided to move it to their corporate headquarters to put on display. Engineer Robert Riley.

Switching
Title:  Switching
Description:  We have arrived at the Roseburg siding just north of College Hill with our 35 storage cars. We will end up getting the engines we came in on as well as the other engine on the north end of all these cars and shove them to College Hill. This switch is located at mile 566.8, or about 1.3 miles north of College Hill. The guy standing by the switch is former General Manager Brad Allen, who was playing conductor that day. Description:  Crossing over the BNSF main headed to Grand JCT, TN with 1 car for the NS. Tracks from left to right are the tail track coming off of the Mississippi Central Yard, BNSF main, MC main. There used to be a diamond here until 1982. Now, MC trains have to get permission from the BNSF dispatcher to get lined up through two switches over their railroad.

Description:  This is inside the Agents Office in the depot. The window to the left above the ticket counter is for the colored waiting room, the other is for the white waiting room. The door on the right leads to the white waiting room. Its been 71 years since a ticket was sold for an IC passenger train here. The last freight ICG Freight Agent worked out of here in December of 1975.

Description:  The MSV's two engines are being scrapped in their old yard at Bruce. Too bad these engines could not have got out of Bruce before the line was abandoned as these engines were kept in excellent condition. They probably never pulled more than 15 cars at a time and were always kept in a building or under a shed.
